I know I'm the one on the screen in this documentary, but the idea is that you imagine yourself going after your own goals as you watch it. It will never be easy, and maybe you wont make it, but if you don't try you'll never know.
So get out there, and start chasing your own version of greatness.....

Chasing Vertical: Can you train for a Yosemite Big Wall in 9 months?
Переглядів 49 тис.2 роки тому
I was only 18 and had never climbed before in my life, but I looked off the steep side of Half Dome in Yosemite National park, and decided I was going to climb it. 4 years later I quit my job, and got some friends together and got to work. The training was hard, and I wasn't in the best shape, and it took its toll on my body. I worked through countless injuries and my team and I climbed all ove...

Chasing Vertical Beginner to 5.12 Big Wall Climber in a Year Episode 10: The Final Chapter

As my visa was coming to an end, I entered the final 6 weeks of the project. My timeframe of a single year to train up to climb Half Dome from beginner climber was already hard enough, but it was cut short so it was time to really train, really grind, really climb. So much so we forgot to film a lot of the time. With the blistering heat from the Moab desert, to the stunning glacier carved grani...
Chasing Vertical Episode 9: Heat of Summer

Join us as we travel across the States to find some great climbing spots and figure out just how under prepared I could be when it comes to crack climbing. First we had to build out Vince's van which was much smaller and more compact than the van back in NZ, so we had to get creative with the build to save space and make it livable. The first spot was Seneca Rocks, West Virginia which had some ...
Chasing Vertical Episode 8: Winter Climbing
Переглядів 1,2 тис.4 роки тому
With winter approaching finding good weather and good rock was getting difficult. We searched high up in the mountains, and way down low in the farmland, but luckily we found at least one good location to keep climbing and transitioning to trad which is still a big challenge. We said goodbye to our last third member and good friend Katie and then went for one final climbing trip in NZ. Deciding...
Chasing Vertical Episode 7: Level 4 Lockdown

*Disclaimer* All the climbing in the Dream Sequence was filmed before NZ Level 4 lockdown (before 25.3.2020) and all the climbing in Mt. Somers was filmed during Level 2 lockdown (after 14.5.2020) With Level 4 Lockdown commencing we just happen to arrive in the "climbing mecca of NZ" Takaka and managed to get a few days of climbing in at Paynes Ford before Level 4 initiated. Unfortunately Level...

Better late than never. Rather than just sitting around waiting for my shoulder to heal we decided to climb a few mountains. After a midnight mission into Milford Sounds to try and climb Mitre peak, we were forced to turn back after a few injuries and the weather getting in our way. So we carried on attempting some more ambitious adventures but once again, for various reasons, fell short of our...

I knew what the worst injury I could get during this project was, but honestly I really didn't think it would happen........Until it did With Vince going home to America for 3 weeks, id be riding solo with the focus on training our fitness off the rock in hopes that by the time he got back we both will have increased our grades due to better endurance. At least, that was the plan. Fully Filmed ...

With over 2 kilometers of crags all lined up like that, it was just asking for it ya know? Can we work our way all the way along it in the 5 days we have, before time and food run out? Well we didn't know but we sure tried. The weather and injuries were hardly shining on us but we gave it hell regardless. Watch as Bear and Legs Seige apon the port hills climbing everything in their grade battli...

On-Sighting: You don't know anything about the route other than the grade, if you lunge for that hold, will you stick it, will you fall, or is it even a hold at all, what could be better than that. This video's emphasis is on On-Sighting, but starts with a caving trip as well, and shows the first 2 weeks of our 3rd month of Chasing Vertical. Enjoy, subscribe if you aren't already and I post eve...

With injury still holding me back, it was difficult to find a balance between trying hard enough and not making my injuries worse. During the month, we traveled all over the South Island and climbed in some of the most scenic places. I even tested myself against my previous best from 3 years ago and came out disappointed, kick starting my new training routine. This month was filled with creativ...
How to Attach a Hangboard to your van
Переглядів 4,5 тис.5 років тому
Hangboards are great, but it can be a struggle finding somewhere to put one if you live in a van. We figured out a way it could work for us, and after watching two super average videos on the subject I decided to make a video myself, this is that video. Its not a step by step guide but will hopefully give you some ideas of how to make a system that works for attaching your board. Hope you like ...

Is it possible to carry enough food and shoes ? I want to do it unassisted.
Damn dude, I get genuinely sad when this video ends. You’ve really inspired a lot of people. Maybe next year I’ll finally quit my job and hit the trail. Hope you’re doing well bro!!
Been a year since he posted. This isy favorite video of his. Hopefully he makes more
Good shit, Love the music
ill hitchike next year, entire eu or usa, i wanna do usa first, so hopefully, ill record a series of everything
Awesome video! I watched with a smile on my face the whole time. Thanks for bringing back fond memories! I thru hiked the AT in 2014 and had a blast!
Hi Matheson loved the video. It brought back a lot of memories for me. My brother and I through hiked the AT in 1981. We started in early April from Springer mountain and finished mid August. I was 19 when I started and turned 20 on the trail. It was an incredible adventure and also the first time the both of us had left New Zealand. Congratulations on on your journey. All the best. Beni
Had my shoulder done three years ago, they say it hurts so bad cause it's close to your brain, Fraight hoped the sand line last winter awesome trip😂🏜️👍 keep on keeping on, waiting for part two hitch hiking across USA ?
What happen to the sound
One day I wish to find a barber as skilled as you sir!!
This is a truly great vid. I've always wanted to do the trail, but now I can't wait until I can!
Today''s Washington Post has a detailed article about how the trail has been re-positioned over the years. I watched your entire original documentation of your and Legs' hike, and reading about the trail made me want to re-visit your adventure. Thanks for this remastered gem I've just finished watching. I gave you some props in the WaPo comment thread and I hope it will motivate a few folks to venture over here. Cheers mate and thanks for your channel!
Dude that’s so awesome man, thanks so much for doing that and I’m glad you liked it
1:29:46 wearing masks outside, in Yosemite…WOW! I can only imagine what it’s like hanging w/these 2 socially 🤯 I guarantee I can predict their exact politics as well….which are too predictable! You can almost see the sticks up both their booty holes 😂
Nice masks 😷 Baahaahaaa Bahaha 🐑🐑🐑 🫏 < 🐘
Other than that, very cool video!!
What camera did you use?
We just used a go pro 5 and a Samsung phone 😂
Subscribed as soon as I saw you "sneak" 😂 great video!
Haha glad you liked that
I heard skinny dipping video.
This is such a sick doco man!! I'm at the start of my own climbing/adventure dreams and looking forward to see what the future has in store
That’s awesome dude, I’m stoked you’re out there getting after it, and I’m wishing you all the best
One part I not get why when hitchhike not sit in car when cold hahaha
this is the kind of adventure I want to go on so bad! hmm.. maybe in the summer holidays i can do at least something
i wish you had shown more interactions with your drivers
Congratulations you made it 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Kitty is holding a grudge 😂😂 Very odd for them to 💩 where they can't burry it. 😂
This exactly what vanlife is supposed to be about. Building it out as you go with goodies you find along the journey. Ending up with a uniquely crafted home on wheels! BRAVO 🎉
When I was 16 I made it from LA to DC in 5 days. It was grueling and sleepless. I arrived sick with a temperature. Rode the light rail asleep for 6 hours. I was homeless by choice then...
... but you _should_ be famous. Good story Fantastic cinematography. One of the most likeable and entertaining people on the 'net. Looking forward to seeing more of you.
You know, I’m watching this today, and I got to the part of where you where you describe the seed, to thru hike, being planted. I start to think to myself I remember a video talking about something like this that I watched years ago. Then you did the thing when you cross the state lines, and my suspicion grew a little more. And then the West Virginia section came on and I knew that this was in fact the video I had remembered. I saw all of that, because I am currently planning my thru hike of the Florida trail, for 2024, and I fully believe you are the one who planted that seed for me! I watched this video back when you first published it and now I’ve come across it again when I’m planning my own thru hike! And watching this video again revealed to me that you are the one who planted the seed! I never would have know! But I just wanted to say thank you for publishing this video and documenting your journey! You are to me, what those three thru hikers were to you! And I can’t thank you enough!!
Hey man, so sorry my reply is so late but this is such an awesome message to finally get to see. I’m wishing you all the best with your hike in 2024 and I couldn’t be happier to have been the one to plant that seed. All the best mate
Hey I just found out you and this series and I want to say thank you! Me and my girlfriend wanted to do this for some time now and we finally got the courage to do it. We'll start travelling in 3 months (saving some money just in case) and these are the first videos I've found that actually realistically show how a trip of this kind works so thank you!
Minimalist shoes or foot shaped shoes would be better, altra lone peaks are amazing.
Great video. Really enjoyed it from start to finish. I attempted in 2014, and I'm aiming for a second try in 2023.
One of, if not the dopest video I have seen on youtube. Shows me it's possible. Cheers to you !
I bought gear over 2 years after a ton of research and have been saving money for a few years. Credit cards in case of emergency.
Dude, you gross me out and make me laugh my ass off all in the same minute. Lol. Very enjoyable 😉 Edit: And you earned that summit too. I can't believe you went over Mt Washington in a storm and hopefully the Giardia was mild 😳
Man this is so friggin cool. You seem to just carry on no matter what. Quite the inspiring stuff you got here. Many thanks to you for making this great video. Im sure you have inspired many to go out on their own adventure. Thank you🙏😀😎
I liked the documentary very much, really high level for a yt video. Sick guy!
i think so too…really nice guy!
If you lost that much weight in your thumbnail. You totally messed up on your food carries and calorie intake. I'm sure you've learned , I did the same a bit and it took me a while to get dialed in. I eat like a piggy on trail I actually gained weight on the cdt this year (Southbound) lol . Cool documentary though
Thanx for this video.
One of my favorite documentaries/films. Amazing filming, production, cutting and music choice! Best comment: than we get desk jobs and never speak about it again😂 you sir are not meant for a desk job 🤘
Brilliant series, thanks so much for uploading it! Surprised it doesn’t have more views. In any case you gained a new sub. Would love to see you do this again. Xoxo
Brilliant movie truly inspiring
Ya let's all film our selves getting scrap wood out of building sites n Bunnings scrap bins eh. Way would U n secondly who hasn't done this shit mate n thirdly wats theses new generations coming to thinking there the first to do everything when it's all be done not to mention filming evey thing they do n then posting it for the world to see. How pathetic. Sorry but come in just think about it
did you have a stroke writing this?
Just finished watching the first one and now I see there's a remastered one for me to check out haha. Loved seeing your journey- I'll be hiking the trail in 2023 myself! One quick question- around when did you start/finish your hike?
Half dome? KC now. I miss the west and Nevada. In a old rusted van near the river.
The second I saw you eating out of the trash. I knew it wasn't gunna end well. Lol
would love to see you do another one and hit the south east coast and south west
also would like to see more about the people who pick you up, find them interesting
nice seeing a new video from you man. love it.
Thanks a bunch man, appreciate that
Nice video
I don't think the full sheet of ply was rubbish ...
Amazing video ❤ Really want to vist New Zealand in the near future, if i'll do, i'll hit you up for a climb 🤙 cheers from Italy. Couldn't believe that this video on had a thousand views, more to come for sure.
Thanks so much, i'm glad you liked the video. Sounds good to me and yea, a lot less views than I was hoping haha
fantastic video :)
Thanks a bunch, i'm glad you liked it
Well, one day...
I hope so too man, I'm sure you could do it if you set aside enough time for the right training. Good luck with it Matheson
